The Fremantle Dockers are back in the top eight after victory over the Gold Coast in front of their home fans in Perth, leaving them set to reach the finals.
But their victory was marred by an injury to key defender and captain Alex Pearce, who was subbed out and finished the game with his hand wrapped in ice.
The Dockers bounced back from a resounding 67-point defeat by the Western Bulldogs to clinch the points against the Suns by 20 points.
Gold Coast kicked the first two goals of the game, but Fremantle then kicked six of the next seven goals to take control at half-time.
The Dockers had to cope with late aggression from the Suns, scoring four goals to two in the final period.
The home team’s victory was driven by their midfield, with Hayden Young scoring three goals, and Andrew Brayshaw, Caleb Serong and Sean Darcy scoring one goal each.
Earlier, Essendon had taken care of West Coast at Docklands, with the Bombers’ 30-point win leaving them third on the ladder.
Forward Jake Stringer kicked five in the win, with captain Zac Merrett, the dynamic Sam Durham and Jay Caldwell bested for the Bombers.
The end of Round 15 means the end of the bye rounds, with all teams having nine games remaining in the home and away season.

The Dockers’ midfield produced an unexpected number of goals to help the hosts to a 12.13 (85) to 10.5 (65) victory in front of 40,637 fans on Sunday.
The result moves Fremantle (8-5-1) up to fifth, while Gold Coast (7-7) drops to 12th after consecutive losses.
Fremantle’s premiership potential will face a stern test when they take on leaders Sydney at the SCG next Saturday.
And they may be without Pierce, whose elbow briefly turned the wrong way when he crashed onto the turf late in the third quarter.
Pearce immediately went to the bench and was ruled out of the game due to concerns over his elbow and arm.
Dockers forward Josh Tracey also caused a scare in the camp when he injured his left shoulder while making a big tackle in the final term.
