The U.S. men’s basketball team won its fifth consecutive Olympic Games gold medal with a 98-87 victory over France on Saturday.
Steph Curry again came to the rescue for Team USA, hitting three consecutive 3-pointers in the final two minutes of the game. He finished with 24 points overall on 8-of-13 shooting from 3-point range.
Kevin Durant and Devin Booker added 15 points apiece for the US, followed by LeBron James who added 14 points, 10 assists and six rebounds. Anthony Davis led both teams with 10 rebounds and four blocks.
The three-pointers were a big difference in Team USA winning the gold. As a team, the US shot 50% from 3 (18 of 36). By comparison, France shot 30% (9 of 30) from behind the arc.
Durant won his fourth gold medal, the most in Olympic men’s basketball history. James also earned his fourth Olympic medal with three golds and one bronze.
For the host nation, Victor Vembanyama scored a game-high 26 points with seven rebounds. Guershon Yabusele added 20 runs and Nando De Colo added 12 runs. Nicolas Batum grabbed eight rebounds.

Team USA men’s basketball has captured its fifth consecutive gold medal. The Americans, led by Stephen Curry, LeBron James and Kevin Durant, won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a 98-87 victory over host nation France on Saturday. It was a tense gold medal game in front of a pro-France crowd at the Bercy Arena in Paris, but Team USA never trailed in the second half and Curry took the game with a mesmerizing 3-point lead. Victor Wembanyama made life difficult for the Americans by scoring a team-best 26 points in the biggest game of his life so far.
France cut Team USA’s lead to three points in the final minutes, but then Curry responded. The best shooter in basketball history hit a staggering four 3-pointers in a two-minute span, giving the Americans a breathing space in the final moments. Curry finished with 24 points on 8-for-12 3-point shooting after scoring 36 against France and nine 3s against Serbia.
It is the first Olympic gold medal for Curry, who had never attended the Games until this summer.
