The suspect in the apparent assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump was charged with two federal gun crimes on Monday.
The man, Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, has been charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count of possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Both charges carry a combined maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a total fine of $500,000.

The charges were revealed Monday morning during Routh’s initial court appearance in U.S. District Court in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Appearing before Magistrate Judge Ryan McCabe in shackles and dark blue prison attire, Routh looked nonchalant and nonchalant as he sat with a public defender, NBC News reported.

The suspect is scheduled to return to court for a bond hearing next Monday, Sept. 23.
