Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recognized President Joe Biden’s years of service and criticized Vice President Kamala Harris, just hours after the president decided to drop his reelection bid.

“I want to start by commending President Biden for his career in public service, his long, long career representing and serving our country, and the many difficulties he has overcome,” Kennedy said.

The president’s decision came after weeks of struggling to regain his mental acuity after his disappointing performance in the debate on June 27 brought issues to the fore. Biden has endorsed Harris as his choice for the 2024 Democratic nominee.
Kennedy quickly turned from support to disdain, calling Harris “extremely unpopular with her own party” and claiming that her potential leap to the presidency was a way to retain donors’ money.

He also criticized Harris’ track record in California, calling her fight to keep non-violent criminals in prison a “modern version of indentured servitude.”

This isn’t a new criticism — as California’s attorney general, he said releasing those criminals would starve his wildfire suppression task force, as reported by E.

Kennedy claims the problem is the rise of corporate power over democracy, beginning with Citizens United in 2010, which “brought a tsunami of money” into the political process. The independent candidate believes that both major parties have “lost any kind of authentic connection” with the people.

He criticized both Trump and Biden for not addressing important concerns such as the national debt and America’s involvement in foreign wars.

“I think it’s fair to criticize President Trump and President Biden on their records. I believe it is better for the country that we do not promote bitterness, anger and division. I think we need to move on from this,” he told NewsNation exclusively.

Biden’s announcement comes just weeks before delegates are set to formalize their candidacy at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

The Curb Your Enthusiasm actress has been with him during his 2024 presidential campaign, but had supported him before he entered politics.

Hines told People in 2014 that Kennedy was “a devoted father and a good guy in every way.” The couple has seven children in a blended family. Hines has a daughter, Katherine, from her first marriage to Paul Young, while Kennedy has six adult children from her two previous marriages – sons Bobby III, Connor, Finn and Aidan, and daughters Kick and Kyra.

Kennedy, who is running as an independent candidate in the 2024 presidential election, is equally enthusiastic about Hines, whom he married in August 2014. In honor of his wedding anniversary in 2020, the former environmental lawyer dedicated a now-deleted Instagram post to his wife.

He wrote, “Thank you for the unimaginable happiness, for your wise and kind advice, for your generous spirit, for your faithful companionship in joy and sorrow, for the love you have given our children, and for the endless laughter.”

Statement from four of his siblings described Robert F. Kennedy’s campaign as ‘dangerous for our country’
Before her marriage to Hines, Kennedy was married twice. He married his first wife, Emily Ruth Black, in 1982, separating after 10 years and divorcing in 1994. That same year, he married his second wife, Mary Kathleen Richardson, and filed for divorce in 2010. Richardson died by suicide in 2012.

Since the beginning of his presidential campaign, his relationship with Hines has been in the spotlight more than ever, and he considers her both his wife and an important campaign spokesperson.

“Hines is mesmerizing when she’s on TV,” Kennedy told The New York Times, adding, “I think if ultimately I were elected, Cheryl would have played a huge role in it.”
