Danny Trejo says he was provoked into a fight during a Fourth of July incident … and insists race played a role in why he and his friend were targeted.

TMZ contacted the actor and his friend … and Trejo says he believes they were targeted in the Sunland-Tujunga parade because they’re Mexican — especially since no one was alone and the water Was hit by a balloon.

Previous video of the brawl that we shared showed Danny throwing the first punch – but the actor told us he was just reacting to the person who grabbed him first. Also, he also said that someone told him that it was acid and not water that was thrown on him… due to which he quickly jumped out of the car.

His friend also shows us how crazy things were – he gives us close-ups of his bruised eye and red, swollen arms, which he says have other people’s fingerprints all over them.

Finally, Danny says it’s sad that grown people would stoop so low as to attack an 80-year-old man… only to still talk and laugh about it afterward.

Law enforcement told TMZ that a radio call came in about a large fight… but by the time they arrived, the crowd had already dispersed, so no arrests were made.
But Danny spoke to Us straight after the water balloon drama and blasted those who accused him of it as “cowards” – and it seems his tune hasn’t changed much after sleeping on it .

4th July parade controversy

Actor Danny Trejo, “Machete” star and Los Angeles native, believes his race was a factor in a brawl at a Fourth of July parade.

In an interview with TMZ, Trejo and his unnamed friend said a man threw a water balloon at a vintage convertible during a parade in L.A.’s Sunland-Tujunga neighborhood. Trejo did not realize at first that it was filled with water, causing his concerned reaction.

“I don’t think I would have even been able to get out of the car if someone hadn’t shouted ‘This is acid’,” the 80-year-old actor said. “That’s when I panicked.”

While Trejo admitted to throwing the first punch in the altercation, he says one of the men had already grabbed his chest.

When the man struggled, Trejo was staggered but was able to avoid injury. Her friend showed TMZ multiple bruises all over her body, including a black eye. He said that while he was on the ground people attacked his arms.

The pair believe their Mexican origins made them a target.

Trejo said, “I’m just sad that people from the [1950s] and ’60s still feel the same way.” “Because no one else was targeted.”

Trejo’s friend told TMZ that “it was targeted,” and that the balloons were not thrown at anyone else attending the parade.
