Rap artist Snoop Dogg walked through the suburbs of Paris with the Olympic torch ahead of the opening ceremony on Friday.

Grammy-nominated Snoop, who will provide commentary as a special correspondent throughout the Olympic Games, walked through the streets of Saint-Denis as the final torch bearer. French actress Laetitia Casta and French rapper MC Solar also carried the torch in Saint-Denis.

“I see it as a prestigious honor and something that I really respect. I would never have dreamed of something like this,” he said earlier this week. “I’m going to be on my best behavior. I’m going to give my best athletic performance. I will be able to take a slow breath to walk faster and hold the torch with a smile on my face, because I realize how prestigious this event is.”

Snoop, wearing a white Olympic tracksuit and gold sneakers, will carry the torch during the opening ceremony and carry it to the Olympic cauldron, which was held outside a stadium for the first time in Summer Games history.

The Olympic torch began its procession to France in May after spending 12 days in Greece. Florent Manaudou, who won gold medal in the men’s 50 meter freestyle at the 2012 London Games, was the first to receive the flame after arriving in France.

What happened

Snoop Dogg has been everywhere during the Paris Olympics, but on Friday morning you can see him carrying the Olympic torch ahead of the opening ceremony.

He was one of the last torchbearers of the Olympic flame, which was lit in Greece in April and has since been slowly moving towards Paris. Snoop Dogg’s leg was in Saint-Denis, a suburb of Paris.

In an interview earlier this week, the multihyphenate expressed his gratitude to the US and France for the opportunity.

“I see it as a prestigious honor and something that I really respect. I would never have dreamed of something like this,” he said. “I’m going to be on my best behavior. I’m going to give my best athletic performance. I will be able to take a slow breath to walk faster and hold the torch with a smile on my face, because I realize how prestigious this event is.”

Snoop Dogg is in Paris to help cover the games for NBC, part of the US broadcaster’s bid to boost ratings by infusing coverage with pop culture.
