Maxine Jewell Robinson-Young, 95, of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, was born January 29, 1929, in Troy, Alabama. She was the third of eight children and the eldest daughter of the late Robert Adams Sr. and Mary Ella Adams. Maxine was thirteen years old when her father moved her and her six siblings to Blair Heights in Clairton, Pennsylvania.
Maxine graduated from Clairton High School and married at a young age. From that union, she gave birth to her first child, James Louis Brodie, Jr. (Captain). In 1951, she and Harry E. Robinson were married in New York, and their twenty-five-year relationship produced Marquita and Jonathan.
As a stay-at-home mother until her youngest child went to junior high school, she completed nursing school to become a licensed practical nurse at Allegheny General Hospital. At the age of thirty-nine, after her children were grown, her gift of kindness and heart of compassion compelled her to open her home to eight-year-old Suzanne Owais.
