Following an offseason of contract talks that have yet to yield a lucrative extension, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has officially requested a trade, according to league sources.

Sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Tuesday that other teams reaching out to the 49ers have been told the team has no intention of trading him.

Aiyuk’s request comes a week before the veteran is scheduled to report to Niners training camp and about three weeks after Aiyuk and the Niners met in Santa Clara to discuss the situation. NFL Network first reported the trade request.
With one year remaining on his rookie contract, Aiyuk is seeking a big-money extension similar to other wideouts who have earned deals this offseason, such as the Philadelphia Eagles’ A.J. Brown, Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions, DeVonta Smith of the Eagles and Jaylen Waddle of the Miami Dolphins.

Aiyuk, 26, is set to make $14.124 million in 2024, the fifth and final year of his rookie contract.

At various points this offseason, Aiyuk has tried to pressure the Niners to make a deal before their usual late-summer deadline. He has used social media to express his displeasure and even posted a video on TikTok in which he tells former Arizona State teammate and current Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels on FaceTime that the Niners “Don’t want me back.”

But Aiyuk had stopped requesting a trade as of Tuesday. A league source told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that Aiyuk “wants to be traded or get paid. San Francisco doesn’t want to pay him [relative to market value] or trade him.”

Despite the request, San Francisco’s position on Aiyuk has not changed. The Niners have always said they want to pay Aiyuk and keep him for the long term. Receivers based on other deals signed this offseason.

New contract

The 26-year-old’s request follows a career-best 2023 season in which he caught 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, displaying an uncanny rapport with 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy in a talent-laden San Francisco offense.

The 49ers went ahead and moved some of their teammates, signing running back Christian McCaffrey to a record-setting two-year, $38 million extension, and signing receiver Jaun Jennings to a one-year deal worth up to $15.4 million.

However, Aiyuk’s contract was renegotiated, leading to an uncomfortable offseason, with the receiver going so far as to publicly list other teams (Washington, Pittsburgh) as a possibility if things didn’t work out with the 49ers. Could see getting involved.

Aiyuk skipped the 49ers’ mandatory minicamp in search of a long-term deal, leading to a fine. With two consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and a contract year rapidly approaching, it appears Aiyuk’s patience has run out.

Son

Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk’s mother is a San Francisco 49ers fan. She was a fan even before her favorite team drafted her son.

“My mom has been a huge 49ers fan her whole life,” Aiyuk told reporters shortly after being drafted, “so it kind of impacted me a little bit when I was younger.”

Aiyuk was asked if fans stuck with him during his childhood.

He responded, “So, I wouldn’t exactly call myself a fan.” “I just hang out with the players. But, of course, when I was younger, I was playing with the 49ers because of my mom.”

Aiyuk and his girlfriend Rochelle had a son, Braylon, in September. Now that Aiyuk is a father, he’s hoping for the best for Braylon. The 49ers receiver says his son can be whatever he wants in life. Well, there is a limit that dad needs.

Braylon may not be a Seattle Seahawks fan (from Radio.com’s Jordan Cohn). Except – Aiyuk used a certain emoji when typing the name of a division opponent.
Teammates like tight end George Kittle and defensive end Ronald Blair left comments sharing their agreement.

With one season to go, there is hope that Aiyuk will have a long and successful career with the 49ers. Maybe Braylon will enjoy watching his dad embarrass opposing defenses at Levi’s Stadium one day.

As a rookie, Aiyuk led the team in receptions (60), receiving yards (748), and receiving touchdowns (5), while appearing in only 12 games.

Brandon Aiyuk’s summer of discontent apparently ended with a request that the San Francisco 49ers let him go.
If only that mattered to the reigning NFC champions.
Entering his fifth NFL season after a breakout showing in 2023, Aiyuk has apparently asked for a trade from the Niners, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. A first-round pick in 2020, the field-flipping wide receiver is now only under contract for the 2024 campaign – the fifth-year option of his rookie contract will pay him $14.1 million.

It’s only natural that Aiyuk would be looking at huge dollar signs at a time when he’s likely entered the conversation as one of the league’s top 10 wideouts — and the positional market now dictates that mega Considering the amount of money he has decided to earn this year, his price is double. Recently Justin Jefferson, A.J. Deals signed by teammates such as Brown, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jaylen Waddle and DeVonta Smith. All will receive an average of at least $25 million annually on their new multi-year deals.

Luckily for the 49ers, they have almost all of the cards in their hands heading into a training camp matchup with one of their better players who is rapidly developing. But given the leverage – and Championship potential – the club has, there is no reason to blink.
