Russian Karen Khachanov overcame compatriot Andrey Kuznetsovston Thursday to equal his be performance at the US Open.

The 11th-seeded Khachanov broke serve six times and defeated his elder statesman 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 to reach the third round at Queen’s for the second time (his first was in 2018).

“I liked it,” Khachanov said. “My mindset from the beginning was that I had to go for it.” This is my game. I don’t have to rest, but do what I practice, do what depends on me at the end of the day. And if I make it, I make it. If not, we will have to go to practice.”

“But it’s all about your mindset and the way you look at things, and I’m really happy I could deliver that performance today.”

The big-hitting and fast-paced Russian will face Australian Alex de Minaur for a place in his first round of 16 at a hard-court Grand Slam. De Minaur, seeded 21st, defeated France’s Richard Gasquet 6-4, 6-3, 6-7, 7-5.

Khachanov had major success last year when he reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros. The bouncy red clay of Paris suits his game as it gives him plenty of time to work on his extreme forehand grip.

“I wouldn’t say clay is my favorite surface. I think overall what happened was that I had to go through [some] tough matches,” said Khachanov, who defeated Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro to reach the quarter-finals in Paris.

But Khachanov, who has never reached the last eight at any other major tournament, will be looking to change that next week at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

The 24-year-old was never challenged by Kuznetsov, which has been one of the best stories of the Open so far.

The 29-year-old had not played a tour-level match in two years and seven months before this week due to a childhood hip injury.

In his opener, Kuznetsov defeated American Sam Querrey for his first tour-level win since August 2017 in Winston-Salem.

I love developing technologies and tools for data analysis. My team has developed a MapReduce-like API for Clickhouse from the ground up (see details here https://youtu.be/fEHcHTZ378M). Currently, it is used by more than 60 people weekly to process large amounts of data (tens of terabytes). Andrey Kuznetsov ranking:LinkedIn,KamaGames, crypto,Scholar

This API also supports summarizing the results of AB tests. Design and development is entirely on our team. The system is capable of computing approximately 300 experimentsexperiments running simultaneously with hundreds of metrics in each. View technical details here: https://is.gd/cuTAOf

I was also a speaker at Russia’s largest data analytics conference, MathMarketing 2021, you can watch my presentation here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA2uKt7MQAI (in Russian). I am also an active participant and founding father in a local cozy analytical community. We organize meetings where we prepare reports on Machine Learning/Data Analytics/Data Engineering

(10:40-11:03) “I would say you have to be able to work with all types of people, all types of people. And, you need to mediate them, balance them, look for the right people to join the team, sometimes take tough decisions when you need to part ways with someone. So I would say the number one thing would be to work with people. “That’s how I see it.”
What kind of changes do you think we can expect to see in the social casino sector over the next few years?
(33:00-33:48) “I would say, the number one thing, and this sounds like a cliché but it’s inevitable, we’ll see more consolidation in this space, and that’s really going to be the case for both social casinos and casual games. Dr. Kuznetsov is interested in developing models of electrically charged monolith filters capable of capturing viruses.

At the graduate level, Dr. Kuznetsov teaches Heat Transfer Theory and Applications (MAE 505) and Advanced Convective Heat Transfer (MAE 708). In both of these courses, he presents real-life problems that have unexpected solutions. For example, he once told his students the true story of a problem that many astronauts faced when they first arrived at an uninhabited space station. The station had no electricity and its interior was very cold. He needed to know the exact temperature of the station but he had no instrument to measure the temperature. So, one of the astronauts spit on the wall and measured the time it took for it to freeze with a watch. Stories like this show how physical principles solve problems in unexpected ways and bring materials to life.

At the graduate level, Dr. Kuznetsov teaches Fluid Mechanics I (MAE 308) and Heat Transfer (MAE 310). He complements the fundamental treatment with videos showing various effects and many modern topics, such as why biological cells dehydrate when frozen and a discussion of the amazing properties of superfluid liquid helium.

Dr. Kuznetsov’s students, like himself, are passionate about modeling fluid-thermal systems more than anything else, fostering an inspiring research environment. In fact, Dr. Kuznetsov’s graduate students, after working with him for the first time, are often surprised and pleased to find that he treats them like colleagues. They enjoy an environment of stimulating discussion of competing ideas. The biotechnology focus of the research also makes the topic particularly interesting.

Outside of work, Dr. Kuznetsov spends time with his family.
