Free agent center Andre Drummond has agreed to terms with the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year, $10 million-plus deal, according to Stadium and Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Hungry Drummond almost confirmed the news.
Drummond, 30, posted 8.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in 2023-24, his 12th NBA campaign. His resume includes a pair of All-Star Game appearances and four rebounding titles.
In eight seasons with the Detroit Pistons, where Drummond began his career, he averaged 14.4 points and 13.9 boards. He then returned to the NBA from 2020-2022 with stops at the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, 76ers, and Brooklyn Nets.
In 2022, the big man signed a two-year, $6.6 million contract with the Chicago Bulls, adding him to provide depth behind starter Nikola Vucevic. Drummond averaged 6.0 points on 60.6 percent shooting and 6.6 rebounds in 12.7 minutes per contest in 67 games off the bench in 2022–23.
He performed even better in 2023-24, and now Drummond is about to begin his second stint in Philadelphia, having added more quality frontcourt depth and efficient rebounding behind star big man Joel Embiid off the bench.
Drummond and fellow reserve Paul Reed now help Philadelphia build perhaps the NBA’s deepest and best center group.
Andre Drummond told the world Sunday night that he’s “in the mood for a Philly cheesesteak.”
A few minutes after that particularly cryptic tweet from Drummond, HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported that the veteran center has agreed to a “two-year, $10 million deal” with the Sixers, with a player option in the second year. . A source later confirmed those details to NBC Sports Philadelphia.
That means Draymond is in line for a second stint as Joel Embiid’s backup. The first ended at the 2022 trade deadline when the Sixers included Drummond as part of their package to acquire James Harden from the Nets. Over 49 games as a Sixer, Drummond averaged 6.1 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists.
The 30-year-old big man enjoyed his first race in Philadelphia and looks set to return in January 2023.
“I feel like this organization is such a big family,” Drummond said. “They welcomed me. When I arrived here they made me feel very comfortable. We had a lot of fun as a team. We really cared about each other.

“We had the same goal, to win as many games as possible and be great. It’s sad that we had to break things off in February. I will definitely miss playing here.”
Last season with the Bulls, Drummond led NBA regulars in offensive rebounding percentage, defensive rebounding percentage and total rebounding percentage.
Whatever happens elsewhere for the Sixers in free agency, they will be confident Drummond can help them make needed improvements on the glass. According to Cleaning the Glass, the team ranked 26th in defensive rebounding rate last year, and the Sixers’ struggles there played a significant role in their first-round playoff series loss against the Knicks.
In a broader sense, the Sixers will also look to Drummond as a player who can step into early minutes if needed and help them improve on last season’s 16-27 mark in games without Embiid.
Philadelphia 76ers
Andre Drummond is set to sign a two-year, $10 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, sources tell ESPN, confirming multiple reports.
Philadelphia brings back Drummond, who spent the first half of the 2021-22 season with the 76ers before moving to the Brooklyn Nets as part of the James Harden trade at the February trade deadline.
After spending the last two seasons playing behind Nikola Vucevic in Chicago, Drummond gives Philadelphia an elite backup option behind former MVP Joel Embiid, who missed a large portion of last season due to a knee injury.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the 76ers are set to meet with LA Clippers forward Paul George, the top free agent on the market, as they try to fill out the roster around their star tandem of Embiid and guard Tyrese Maxi. Who are expected to meet. Also a big new contract as a restricted free agent this summer.
Drummond, who will turn 31 in August, solidified his niche as a solid backup center after starring with the Detroit Pistons to begin his career. He continues to be a prolific rebounder, averaging 9 a game in just over 17 minutes last season. In his 10 starts, he averaged nearly 18 rebounds.
