Novak Djokovic says he is feeling troubled by the after-effects of being hit on the head with a bottle as he suffers an unexpected defeat at the hands of Alejandro Tabillo at the Italian Open.

The world number one was accidentally hit with a water bottle while signing autographs after his second-round win over Corentin Moutet on Friday.
He struggled to find his rhythm against Tabillo on Sunday, with the Chilean needing just 67 minutes to win the third-round match 6-2 6-3.

Djokovic said, “It really affected me a lot. After that I got medical care, (and) I had nausea, dizziness and bleeding for half an hour.”

The Serb initially played down the incident when he jokingly wore a bicycle helmet for training on Saturday, but says he will now have further scans.

He said, “I managed to sleep well, I had a headache. The next day, or yesterday, was quite good, so I thought it was OK. Maybe it’s OK, maybe it’s not OK.”

“The way I felt today on the court was exactly like another player had stepped into my shoes.
“Just no rhythm, no pace, no balance on any shots. It’s a bit worrying.”

For Tabillo, ranked 32nd in the world, it was his first career win over a top-10 ranked opponent.
The 26-year-old was dominant throughout, breaking Djokovic four times and not conceding a single break point.

“It’s unbelievable. I was just looking around on the court and trying to absorb everything. I’m just trying to stay awake,” Tabillo said.

“I was just trying to keep my nerve and keep swinging. Every time you feel like you’re getting close to the end your arms get a little tighter”I was just trying not to think about it and take it point by point. It’s crazy, I can’t believe what’s happened.”

Tabillo is the first Chilean player to defeat a world number one since Fernando González defeated Roger Federer at the ATP Finals in 2007.

He will next play Karen Khachanov, the 16th seeded Russian.

Speaking to the media after his loss, Djokovic talked about the serious head injury he suffered following his second-round win against Corentin Moutet in Rome.

He admitted that this may have played a role in his defeat at the Italian Open. Djokovic was accidentally hit by a fan’s metal water bottle while signing autographs for fans after his second-round win. He fell to the ground in pain and was treated before being taken to the locker room.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion later tweeted that he was fine after the incident and was ready for his match on Sunday.

However, his shocking defeat in the third round has him worried about the serious impact of his injury. Djokovic admitted he felt isolated on the court and struggled for balance in his third-round match. He further said that he felt like a “completely different” player from two days earlier and could not cope with the pressure during the match.

He also confirmed that he is ready to undergo a scan to understand the severity of the injury before the start of the French Open.

When Novak Djokovic was asked about his serious head injury, he claimed that he was ‘unfortunate’ to find himself in that situation.

Djokovic was immediately taken to the medical room where he was treated for his injury. He claimed that he felt the after-effects of headache, nausea and dizziness during the night, but felt better the next day.

However, Djokovic’s struggle against Tabilo has raised doubts over whether his head injury is worse than first suspected. He claimed that he could not find his rhythm during the match and admitted that he was worried about his form ahead of the French Open.

An athletic left-hander with a sweet serve and forehand, Tebilo stepped up as the world No. 1 player, determined to take the first strike with his forehand, controlling as many exchanges as possible and defeating Djokovic.

To put forward. It soon became clear that there was minimal resistance on the entire net. Djokovic lost his opening service game with two double faults, including one on break point, and as Tabilo became more comfortable on the front foot, the Serb struggled badly.
As well as his passive play and unforced errors, Djokovic was extremely flat emotionally and he kept running between points, seemingly determined to get off the court as quickly as possible and his tournament was moving at 115 miles per hour.

The hour ended with a miserable double fault on the second serve. Later, Djokovic said that he did not undergo any medical checkups on his day off, but with two weeks left until Roland Garros, he will do so now.
“I’ll have to check it out,” Djokovic said. “The training was different. I was going for a kind of easy training yesterday.

I didn’t feel anything, but I didn’t feel the same either. Today under extreme stress, it was quite bad – not in terms of pain, but in terms of this balance. Just no coordination. A completely different player than he was two nights ago. It is possible I don’t know. I need to get a medical checkup done and see what’s going on.”
Djokovic had one of the best seasons of his career in 2023, winning the Australian Open, French Open, US Open and ATP Finals, but it has been a curious year so far.

The defeat means Djokovic, who turns 37 this month, will head into the French Open looking to win a title in a season for the first time since 2018 and just the second time since winning his first title in 2006.
“I’m a better player now,” Sabalenka said. “I have more things in my pocket to get this win against him. Yes, our last matches were a long time ago when I used to go in between.
“I was just trying to find my way.
