$242,588,236
Russell Wilson signed a 5-year, $242,588,236 contract with the Denver Broncos, which includes a $50,000,000 signing bonus, $161,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $48,517,647. In 2024, Wilson will earn a base salary of $39,000,000, while carrying a cap hit of $53,000,000 and a dead cap value of $107,000,000.

Breaking news

After missing Friday night’s preseason game against the Houston Texans, Russell Wilson may not have to wait much longer to take the field for the Pittsburgh Steelers. According to Mike Tomlin, he is expected to be ready to go next week against the Buffalo Bills.

Wilson was battling a calf injury as training camp began, and as a result Justin Fields received reps with the starters and started against Houston. However, when asked if he expected Wilson to be able to go next week, Tomlin was definitive.

“I do,” he said.

Fields made his unofficial Steelers debut in Friday night’s loss to the Texans. He went 5 of 6 passing for 67 yards, but he was sacked twice and had two incorrect snap exchanges with the center. Their reps with the starters add to the intrigue described by Tomlin as competition with Wilson as Arthur Smith makes his first foray into Pittsburgh.
Wilson appeared to be in “pole position” to become the Steelers’ starting quarterback after signing with Pittsburgh at the beginning of the offseason and was listed as the starter on the initial depth chart. But his absence during training camp has allowed Fields to work more with the 1s, and that means the former Chicago Bears quarterback has been coaching well ahead of the preseason opener.

As far as its impact on the competition with Wilson is concerned, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport recently said that Wilson’s chances of becoming the starter may not be as slim as before. Of course, things may change as camp progresses.
“Justin Fields has had an impressive last few weeks,” Rapoport said. “And it’s clear, Russell Wilson came into this camp in pole position. “I feel like, just to me, that (the competition) is probably a little bit more open than it was a couple of weeks ago.”

Tomlin also discussed Wilson’s chances of starting the season.

injury

The NFL world is a whirlwind right now! The preseason has started, and there’s a lot going on—Hall of Fame induction, training camp, suspensions, controversies and injuries. It’s like a variation of madness in real life! While injuries are common in the sports world, one athlete’s injuries can open doors for others! A similar incident occurred this preseason when Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson injured his calf during training camp. Although the player’s injury has sidelined him, it has created valuable opportunities for other players, especially Justin Fields.

Fields has attracted some attention with his powerful arm and top-notch accuracy. He stepped up to first-line duties in Wilson’s absence, building strong relationships with the receiving corps and making some impressive plays, increasing the team’s cohesiveness and performance on the field. Not only Justin, but backups like Kyle Allen have also benefited from the increased playing time due to Wilson’s injury.

According to Steelers HC Mike Tomlin, Allen performed well during practice, completing successful passes and scoring touchdowns. His performance has strengthened the depth at the quarterback position and ensured that the team is well prepared regardless of Wilson’s status.
When reporters asked Tomlin, “You always say, ‘One man’s misfortune is another man’s opportunity.’ So, in addition to creating an opportunity for Justin Fields, did this also give you and your team a chance to learn a new player faster?” The head coach highlighted how Wilson’s injury may have sidelined the player, but it also helped the team understand what Justin and Kyle could bring to the table.

But how do Fields and Allen compare to Russell Wilson? Well, there is no doubt that Justin and Kyle are rising talents. Fields has already proven his ability as a quarterback, especially through his mobility and playmaking abilities. He has impressive running statistics. Player has gained 1,143 yards in 2022.
