Defending champion Jannik Sinner vs World No. 8 Alex de Minaur highlights the quarterfinal clash on Day 11 of the Australian Open 2025 on Wednesday, January 22.
Madison Keys will open the second set of the quarterfinals at Rod Laver Arena when she faces Elina Svitolina. After this, eighth seed Emma Navarro will try to stop the advance of Polish star Iga Swiatek in the second quarterfinal of the day.
Ben Shelton will be aiming to go beyond the quarter-finals in 2023 as he faces first-time Grand Slam quarter-finalist Lorenzo Sonego. Their match will conclude the day’s session at Rod Laver Arena.
Sinner will be hoping to book a place in the semi-finals when he takes on home favorite and world No. 8 Alex de Minaur in the night session at Rod Laver Arena. Sinner has an impeccable record against the Australian star with a 9-0 head-to-head record. Alex will have his task cut out for him, as he has won just one set in his last nine meetings against the world No. 1.
The doubles quarterfinal action continues on Wednesday at the Margaret Court Arena. The 2024 Wimbledon champions, Harry Heliovara and Henry Patton, will open the event against Hugo Nys and Edouard Roger-Vasselin. Next, the 2024 Nitto ATP Finals winners, Kevin Kravitz and Tim Puetz, will take on the British pair of Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool.
What happened
The Australian Open is delivering results, and then some.
Tuesday’s quarter-final was hugely memorable – none more so than Novak Djokovic’s sensational win over Carlos Alcaraz – and there are more potential thrills at Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday.
In the men’s singles, Jannik Sinner will face Australian hope Alex de Minaur, while in the women’s Iga Swiatek will look to continue her impressive campaign so far in Melbourne.
Apart from a mid-match mishap against Holger Rune when he appeared to be suffering from concussion, Jannik Sinner has looked calm and controlled so far on his way to the last eight.

But it’s a whole new test on Wednesday as he faces the last Australian left in the men’s or women’s draw – Alex de Minaur – and the support that comes with him.
Can De Minaur somehow harness that home energy to dethrone the No. 1 seed and defending champion?
An extraordinary indication of how impressive Swiatek has been at this Australian Open is that she has lost just four games, and split three bagels, in her last three matches.
Can anyone stop her as she looks to go beyond the semi-finals for the first time in Melbourne?
Emma Navarro is next, but in contrast, the 23-year-old American has played three-setters in all four of her matches to reach this point.
Will she be able to find something to upset the Polish five-time Slam winner!

There was a time when mid-round matches between these two were going to become a tradition at Slams. In 2017 and 2019, Keys and Svitolina met twice in the fourth round of the US Open and once in the fourth round of the Australian Open. Svitolina won twice and Keys won once.
But the emerging rivalry did not continue to grow. Their most recent match, which Keys won, was in Adelaide in 2022.

Now they will face off again for a berth in the Slam Semis. As is usually the case with players who are this deep into a major game, each was dialed in and played inspired tennis. Keys has won nine consecutive matches, and she defeated No. 4 seed Elena Rybakina in the third set on Monday. Svitolina’s hitting has not been so spectacular, but she has played with maximum emotion and motivation, and she defeated her own higher seed Jasmine Paolini 6–0 in the third.

The key was taken care of.
“Honestly, I was very impressed,” she said of Svitolina’s aggressive play in her win over Paolini. “She was really going after her shots and hitting some incredible forehands. I definitely think this won’t be a typical matchup like we’ve seen in the past.”
Keys says she expects to see Svitolina hit big and Svitolina should probably expect the same from Keys. As hard as it may be to believe, the American says she’s been battling her anxiety lately not just by trying to play it safe, but by trying to play even harder.
“I think I’ve been really—and this is going to sound crazy, but I think I’ve been really working on trying to play a little more aggressive,” Keys said after her win over Rybakina. “I found that in the second set I was a little nervous, and I felt like I became a little passive.”
All this could mean that this match will be like their previous match.
