Dan Hurley CAN WIN With Lakers: Salary,Brother,Height & Age,Son
Dan Hurley is trending despite the NBA Finals between the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics. The UConn coach was the frontrunner for the Lakers job, but decided to decline it and remain with his current team. After taking this decision, he also told about the options.
“I am grateful for this entire experience,” Hurley said. At the end of the day, I’m extremely proud of the championship culture we’ve created in Connecticut.
We met as a team before today’s workout and right now our focus is on getting better this summer and connecting as a team to pursue a championship.
As ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports, the Lakers extended a six-year, $70 million contract offer to Hurley, who has led the Huskies to consecutive national titles.
According to the report, Hurley, 51, is motivated to lead the team to its first three consecutive NCAA titles since John Wooden’s UCLA teams won seven in a row from 1966 to 1973.
Wojnarowski wrote on Monday at the Woj said Hurley was already receiving an offer from UConn to become one of the highest-paid NCAA coaches, and that those talks would move forward even before the Lakers.
Hurley’s choice has left the Lakers in a dilemma. They may now be targeting two candidates: Hornets assistant James Borrego and former NBA player and media personality JJ Redick, who was a front-runner for the position before rumors surfaced that Hurley was being considered.
The Lakers had a disappointing season in which they lost to the Nuggets in five games during the opening round of the playoffs.
Salary
Hurley received a six-year, $32.1 million deal a year ago after the Huskies won the 2023 NCAA title; Another new deal now seems certain. “We are thrilled that Dan Hurley has decided to stay at UConn and continue our championship tradition,” said UConn athletic director David Benedict.
Brother
Hurley is the brother of Arizona State coach Bobby Hurley, who as a player led Duke to three Final Four appearances and two national championships. His father is renowned prep coach Bob Hurley Sr., who led Jersey City’s St. Anthony High School to 28 New Jersey state titles.
