Colorado finally got a chance to play with a lead against the Dallas Stars, although the Avalanche still trailed in the series.
Avalanche defenseman Cale Maker scored two goals, the second after Casey Mittelstaedt’s go-ahead lead in the third period, and they beat top-seeded Dallas 5-3 in Game 5 on Wednesday night. The Avs snapped their three-game losing streak and advanced to the second round Western Conference series.
