Terri Harper produced a much-improved performance to earn a unanimous points victory over Rhiannon Dixon for the WBO lightweight title and become a three-weight world champion on Saturday.
The 27-year-old Harper (15-2-2, 6 KOs), from Doncaster, dropped three weight divisions to revive her career in style as she dominated Dixon and beat Canon 97-93, 97-93, 96- Won with a score of 94. Medical Arena in Sheffield, England.
Harper is the first female boxer from the United Kingdom to win world titles in three weight classes (lightweight, junior middleweight, junior lightweight).
The win was much needed for Harper, who had a unification title fight with Cecilia Brakas at junior middleweight in October and then was stopped in the fourth round by Sandy Ryan at welterweight in March.
But Harper looked a different fighter than Dixon, who lost to Ryan, and the drop in weight was obviously favorable to him.
“This is the best win of my career,” Harper said.
“I’ve become a new fighter physically and mentally. I’m better at this weight. I fell out of love with the sport and I needed that fire [pressure] to get going again.”
Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn said that possible future fights for Harper included IBF lightweight champion Beatriz Ferreira, undisputed super lightweight champion Katie Taylor, undisputed junior lightweight champion Alicia Baumgardner and WBA-WBO featherweight champion Amanda Serrano.
Dixon (10-1, 1 KO), a 29-year-old southpaw from Warrington, was defending for the first time since a unanimous decision win over Karen Elizabeth Carbajal in April, but she couldn’t keep up with Harper’s experience and slick boxing.
Despite still being the WBA junior middleweight champion, Harper insisted he was returning to his natural weight class by challenging his English rival Dixon at lightweight.
Harper suffered a crushing defeat in her last fight, when Ryan knocked her out in four rounds for the WBO world welterweight title, which Ryan lost to Mikaela Mayer by majority decision in New York.
Net worth
Terri Harper has an estimated net worth of a little over 1 million dollars. During her career, she has fought professionally in 13 bouts of which she has lost only one and with the recent victory she won the title for WBA Inter-Continental lightweight title which also brings in thousands of dollars from fights and sponsorships which is why we can say her worth is around a million.
