Members of the rock band Jane’s Addiction were fighting at their concert in Boston on Friday night.
In a video captured and shared on social media, frontman Perry Farrell can be seen punching guitarist Dave Navarro in a heated altercation.
Pharrell, 65, thrusted his body toward Navarro, 57, on stage. The guitarist appeared to put his hands on the front man’s chest to stop him from moving forward.
During the tense encounter, Farrell continued to yell at Navarro until he punched the guitarist.
Security guards immediately stopped the fight and told Pharrell to “stop” while they held him down to prevent him from attacking the guitarist further.
Navarro grabbed Farrell’s arm and became angry, as he attempted to attack the guitarist again.
Pharrell’s wife, Etty Lau, spoke about the controversy on her social media and explained the events that unfolded.
“Rather than speculate, I thought I’d post a first-person account of what happened on stage with Jane’s Addiction last night at Lender’s Pavilion in Boston,” Lau wrote on his Instagram.
“There was obviously a lot of tension and animosity between the members… the magic that made the band so dynamic. Well, the dynamite was lit. Perry got up in Dave’s face and body checked him,” she explained.
Lau said that the fight stemmed from Perry’s patience wearing thin clothing, as his health was not in the best condition before the band’s performance.
He added, “Perry was becoming increasingly frustrated, as night after night he felt the stage was too loud and the band was drowning out his voice.”
“Perry was suffering from tinnitus and sore throat every night. But when the audience in the front row started complaining to Perry, yelling at him that the band was (playing) too loud and they couldn’t hear him, Perry lost it.”
In Lau’s lengthy post, he wrote that Eric Avery, founding bass guitarist and co-songwriter.

“Eric walked up to Perry in the dark, on top of the stage… put Perry in a headlock and punched him three times in the stomach. Kevin, a long-haired crew member… pulled Eric off. Then Eric, Unperturbed, he walked to the front of the stage to apologize to the audience for the show ending early.”
He further stated that the concert brawl resulted in Eric taking “a few cheap shots at Perry”.
“Perry was a mad animal for the next half hour – he did not calm down eventually, but broke down and kept crying and crying.”

After Pharrell left, Navarro and the rest of the band came to the front of the stage, hugged each other and threw up peace signs with their fingers.
The group was founded in 1985, but has since disbanded and re-united several times.
