Jaylen Brown Won NBA Finals MVP: Contract,Wife,Points Tonight
Jaylen Brown took home some extra hardware from the TD Garden on Monday night.
Brown was named NBA Finals MVP following the Boston Celtics’ series-clinching victory over the Dallas Mavericks, giving them their first championship since 2008 and 18th in franchise history.
While all eyes were on Celtics star Jayson Tatum heading into the Finals, and rightfully so, it was Brown who shined against the Mavericks. He averaged 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and five assists throughout the series while shooting 44% from the field, and was a consistent force in their 4–1 series win.
Brown, whom the Celtics took with the No. 3 overall draft pick out of Cal in 2016, averaged 23 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, earning his third All-Star nod this season. The 27-year-old completed the first year of a five-year, $286 million deal with the Celtics.
Brown finished with 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists in a 106-88 win over the Mavericks on Monday night. He shot 7 of 23 from the field and made two 3-pointers in the win.
That gives him an edge over Tatum, who has lagged behind Brown a bit in recent weeks. He scored more than 20 points in only one of the Celtics’ first four games of the series, coming off an impressive 31-point performance in Game 3 in Dallas.
Despite his slow start, Tatum finished with a near 30-point triple-double in Game 5 on Monday night. He scored 31 points while making 11 of 24 shots from the field and had 11 assists and eight rebounds. It was his best game so far in the Finals, coming at just the right time, albeit late, to ensure the series would not return to Dallas for Game 6. It wasn’t enough to claim the MVP trophy.
The Celtics, as they have done for most of the postseason, largely dominated the Mavericks in the Finals. After a great start in Boston, they took a 3-0 lead. To that point, the Celtics had won 10 consecutive games heading into Game 3 of their second-round series against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Contract
Jaylen Brown signed a 5-year, $286,230,000 contract with the Boston Celtics, including $286,230,000 guaranteed and an average annual salary of $57,246,000. In 2024-25, the Browns will earn a base salary of $49,350,000, with a cap hit of $49,350,000 and a dead cap value of $49,350,000.
Wife
Jaylen Brown is giving himself a year of experience.
The Celtics guard agreed to the richest deal in NBA history – a record 5-year, $304 million supermax extension with Boston – on Tuesday amid reports that he is dating social media influencer, Bernice Burgos.
Brown, 26, and Burgos, who is believed to be 43, were first linked in September 2022, when they were reportedly seen dancing together in a New York City pub.
The NBA star and model were reportedly spotted relaxing on the beach in February, according to photos that surfaced on social media at the time.
That month, Burgos also reportedly teased Valentine’s Day celebrations with a mystery man.
Burgos also caused a stir on social media in April when she shared video of her romantic birthday celebration at Rare Steakhouse at Encore Boston Harbor.
Burgos, a native of the Bronx, is a mother and grandmother who has had connections to numerous celebrities and athletes.
They have two daughters, Ashley Marie Burgos, 27, whom they welcomed at age 15, and Sarai Burgos, 16.
Burgos became a grandmother when Ashley welcomed a daughter named India Ava Aisha in February 2018.
In a 2019 interview, Burgos told Hollywood Unlocked that she was sad when she first became a grandmother “because I knew [my daughter] wasn’t ready [to have a child].”
Describing her relationship with her eldest daughter, Burgos said, “It’s hard because I’m young and she’s young and we’re like sisters.”
Burgos, who has 7.2 million followers on Instagram, is a Fashion Nova ambassador and frequently shares photos and videos endorsing the celebrity-beloved brand.
Points Tonight
Brown averaged 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and five assists per game as Boston won the series in five games. He had a 30-point performance in Game 3 and finished the series on Monday with 21 points.
Brown’s co-star, Jayson Tatum, also had a strong case to win Finals MVP, averaging 22.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game throughout the series, but voters ultimately decided that Brown’s performance was stronger.
If the duo of Tatum and Brown stick together, it looks like Tatum will soon have his own Finals MVP.
While Brown walked away with the Finals MVP trophy, the Celtics put on a complete team performance throughout the playoffs, especially in the Finals.
Brown was humble after receiving the Bill Russell Trophy, saying the trophy was not just his.
“It was a total team effort and I share that with my brothers and my partner in crime Jayson Tatum,” Brown said. “He was with me the whole way, we shared this together.”
While Brown is certainly a worthy Finals MVP, the result was a bit of a surprise in the eyes of NBA fans. After it was announced that Brown was the MVP, fans took to social media to express their surprise, while others said it was the right decision.
Some fans may believe Tatum should have been MVP over Brown, but neither of them care now that they are NBA champions.
Hoisting the Larry O’Brien Trophy has been a long time coming for Tatum, Brown and several other members of the Celtics, who have been one of the best teams in basketball over the past few years.
Boston fell short in 2022, but Tatum and Brown’s improvement, along with some excellent moves by the front office, led them to the 18th championship in franchise history.
