As talks with the San Francisco 49ers continue to escalate over the summer, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is making them public.
For TikTok to be specific.
On Monday, Aiyuk posted a TikTok video of a video call he had with Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. Aiyuk and Daniels were college teammates during Aiyuk’s final season at Arizona State in 2019. During the call, Aiyuk possibly made a bold claim regarding his negotiations with the 49ers.
That was pretty much it. The video stops after a few seconds.
Ayyuk, where does the conversation stop between the 49ers?
So did the 49ers really tell Aiyuk they don’t want him back? It seems impossible. More likely, the two sides are far apart against the backdrop of the lucrative wide receiver market, which has produced massive contracts for some of the league’s best pass catchers. Aiyuk is coming off a career season and is approaching the final year of his rookie contract and will certainly want to get his share of that market.
Meanwhile, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently gave an updated report on Aiyuk’s negotiations clearly stating that the 49ers want him back.
Justin Jefferson (Minnesota Vikings), A.J. Brown (Philadelphia Eagles) and Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions) signed contracts worth more than $30 million per season this offseason. Jefferson’s four-year, $140 million deal makes him the highest-paid non-quarterback in football at $35 million per season.
They are all multi-time Pro Bowlers and All-Pros. Aiyuk – who never made a Pro Bowl – hasn’t produced at that level. He is coming off a career-best Pro Bowl-type season (75 catches, 1,342 yards, 7 TDs) on a team that made the Super Bowl. At 26 years old he definitely has Pro Bowl upside. He’s ready to cash in after making $12.5 million over the first four years of his rookie contract.

Brandon Aiyuk’s contract situation with the San Francisco 49ers took another mysterious move this offseason, with a viral TikTok showing the receiver FaceTiming Washington Commanders rookie Jayden Daniels, saying “They don’t want me back.”
Daniels and Aiyuk played together at Arizona State before the quarterback transferred to LSU. “They said they don’t want me back,” Aiyuk can be heard telling Daniels in the video.
Daniels responded, “That’s it?” Aiyuk immediately says, “I swear.”
“My boy!” Daniels reacted in celebratory fashion.
The video, which was posted on Aiyuk’s TikTok page, was captioned, “I’m laughing but crying.”
Although we can’t know for sure if Aiyuk is talking about the 49ers not wanting him back for this season or after his franchise tag year expires in 2024, his offseason has been filled with tension because He is exploring a contract extension.
His 49ers teammate, tight end George Kittle, also told Fox News Digital that the team should keep Aiyuk in place this offseason.
Kittle said, “I spoke to BA several times throughout the offseason during contract negotiations.” “It’s hard sometimes because you’re talking to people you’ve been with for three to four years and you’re having people argue about what your qualifications are, which can be an uncomfortable conversation at times. It happens, and you may not make eye contact.
“I haven’t asked details of his contract or anything like that, but it’s just, ‘Hey, be patient.’ It’s just the way the Niners work. I didn’t sign my contract until two-and-a-half weeks into training camp, and that’s stressful enough when you have to go out and practice making a deal, so I did. Told him, ‘Be patient, keep working on your art, don’t let anything distract you. Just go out and be yourself every day.'” He’s in the right frame of mind, I worry about Brandon. Not there.’

Fowler reports that Aiyuk believes he is a top man, which may be the root of the rift between the two sides. Aiyuk is a tremendous talent, but he’s not the clear No. 1 option on a 49ers roster that also includes Deebo Samuel.
The Eagles and Miami Dolphins — who also boast high-end wide receiver tandems at the top of their depth charts — could set the template for Aiyuk and the 49ers. Jaylen Waddle signed a three-year, $84.75 million extension ($28.25 million annually) as Miami’s No. 2 option behind Tyreek Hill ($30 million annually). DeVonta Smith signed for three years and $75 million ($25 million) in Philadelphia as the Browns’ second option ($32 million annually).
Aiyuk’s talks could hinge on how he — and the 49ers — view him in that order.
The Dolphins have arguably the deepest running back room in the league with Raheem Mostert, D’Von Achane, Chris Brooks, Jeff Wilson and fourth-round rookie Jaylen Wright. This creates a nice problem: how to keep Mostert’s backside involved?

“I’ve lined up at different positions as far as receivers, route running and stuff,” Achane said during the team’s mandatory minicamp, via David Furones of the Sun-Sentinel. “It’s something we’re doing different this year, so it’s something I’ve been doing in the offseason.”
According to Pro Football Focus, 100 of Achen’s 300 snaps as a rookie came in the slot or out wide. Of the 68 running backs with at least 50 carries, only Cordarrelle Patterson stood out of the backfield with a higher percentage of his snaps.
Achane had 27 catches for 197 yards and three touchdowns last season, as a rookie he had 103 carries for 800 yards and eight touchdowns.
He spent time in the offseason learning from Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and other Dolphins wideouts as he tries to improve.

According to ESPN, Lynch has publicly stated that the 49ers want to sign Aiyuk to a long-term deal, but San Francisco is unwilling to meet the wideout’s contract demands yet. The 49ers have spent a first-round draft pick this offseason, adding Florida’s Ricky Pearsall to a group that also includes Pro Bowler Deebo Samuel who will be charged $24 million each of the next two seasons. More than a dollar is owed.
Meanwhile, Aiyuk could demand at least that amount annually on a new deal, with six different wideouts receiving extensions averaging more than $24 million per year this offseason. If the 49ers don’t cave and decide to auction off Aiyuk via trade, which clubs could emerge as logical destinations.
