Jalen Brunson INJURES Foot
As SNY’s Ian Begley reports, there has been no official statement from the Knicks yet on OG Anunoby’s health status, but there was word internally about Anunoby’s availability for Game 3 of the Knicks-Pacers late Wednesday night. There was disappointment.
That pessimism continued into Thursday morning, as Anunoby’s hamstring soreness is feared to be more than just a cramp.
Anunoby’s official status for Game 3 will be released at 5:30 p.m. On the NBA injury report. He left Game 2 in the second half and did not return to the Knicks due to sore right hamstring.
The already depleted Knicks were tested twice during Wednesday’s Game 2 win over Indiana in front of a rabid crowd at Madison Square Garden.
First, Jalen Brunson exited with about three minutes to go in the first quarter and remained out at halftime due to foot soreness.
Then, Anunoby left late in the third quarter after limping off with a hamstring injury. He was soon ruled out for the remainder of the game.
With Anunoby out and Brunson back, but a little on fumes, the Knicks held on and took a 2-0 series lead, which they will carry into Game 3 on Friday night in Indiana.
Speaking after the game, head coach Tom Thibodeau had no update on Anunoby, saying he had not spoken to the Knicks’ medical staff yet.
After suffering his injury, Anunoby quietly walked off the court under his own power and headed to the locker room.
Before the injury, Anunoby was putting on tour de force performances.
He scored 28 points in 28 minutes, while also grabbing four rebounds and dishing out three assists. And he was aggressive, especially when it came to getting into the lane and finishing low.
With Anunoby out for the entire fourth quarter, the Knicks made do with a six-man rotation – something that likely would not be sustainable for an entire game if Anunoby is forced to miss additional time.
