A nationwide citizen defense mock drill will be organized on 7 May to increase emergency preparations after the Pahgam terror attack. Maharashtra will test a drill, air-raid warning systems, shelter readiness and withdrawal processes involving over 10,000 volunteers. Civil defense volunteers including NCC cadets, home guards and students will participate in simulation to prepare for hostile circumstances.

India has been operating one of its largest civil defense mock drills on May 7, 2025 today, in 244 districts to test emergency preparations amidst increasing tension with Pakistan after the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
This mock drill is the first of its scale since 1971 and reflects the government’s attitude of zero-oppression of the government on security threats after the recent terror attack.
This is an important practice to increase India’s civil defense readiness against new and complex threats.
244 locations
As the tension between India and Pakistan increases, the Union Home Ministry has ordered a mock drill in 244 districts across the country, “Effective Citizen Defense” on 7 May. The central government announced a nationwide civil defense mock drill on Wednesday, Wednesday in states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal.
This development has tightened security in the country after the April 22 terror attack in which 26 people were killed in Pahgam in Jammu and Kashmir.
4pm Exercise
A nationwide mock drill is scheduled to take place at 4 pm in various cities across India today. The purpose of this practice is to test the country’s disaster response abilities and prepare local authorities for emergency situations.
The Karnataka Fire and Emergency Department will operate a series of mock drills as part of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in response to the increased tension with Pakistan after the Pahgam terror attack.
In particular, regularly active civil defense volunteers have a strong presence in civil duties including traffic and mob management in states like Delhi, West Bengal and Punjab. India’s civil defense system is mainly operated on voluntary basis, supported by a small core of paid personnel, and extended during the emergency.
