The Fast & Furious franchise star became “an emotional wreck” after his Fast X costars Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez surprised him on the red carpet at the premiere of his new movie 1992 on Wednesday night.
“I won’t be named dropping today some people don’t even need the name dropped….” Gibson wrote on Instagram with photos of Diesel and Rodriguez with him on the red carpet. “Last night I was an emotional wreck because one thing about me and this is not pride or ego my relationships and my friendships with some of the most powerful and significant people out. There are not abused don’t obligate them to anything. There is no manipulation or trying to force anyone to show up for me for anything.”
Gibson went on to describe how he’s “always been very very, very, very independent and self-sufficient” to the point where he’ll “fall flat on [his] face” and “embarrass” himself before asking for help.
“I don’t need help and I don’t obligate anyone to show up for my dreams,” he added. “So you could imagine everyone’s busy everyone’s kids and family and traveling and respectfully most of the most significant people I know are always gone always traveling always got a lot going on, so as much as we’d like to see each other connect it doesn’t happen as often as we want to.”
That’s why he was reduced to tears seeing Diesel and Rodriguez show up at the 1992 premiere. “[For] these Giants to show up for my little movie a.k.a. our little movie in @1992movie I don’t think you guys will ever understand how FULL my heart was and how truly truly GRATEFUL I am [ and was ] that they showed for my momma’s baby boy,” Gibson wrote. “I am humbled and grateful beyond words… Thank you, Vin Michelle, our executive producer, the big Homie, the real superhero, the biggest RAPPER IN THE WORLD King @snoopdogg.”

The pair reunited on the red carpet and the moment seemed very special for Gibson, who became emotional after seeing his friend and started crying. The two hugged like Michelle Rodriguez.
“We’re at a really interesting time in Hollywood right now,” Diesel said in a clip shared by the Associated Press. “And the first people I’m going to support is a family that has been recognized by the world, the Fast family.”

Tyrese appeared in his first Fast & Furious film in 2003’s 2 Fast 2 Furious, but it wasn’t until 2011’s Fast Five that he and Vin shared the screen. He then starred in the remaining films, including 2023’s Fast X.
But Gibson’s latest offering is 1992, in which he played his final onscreen role alongside Scott Eastwood and the late Ray Liotta. The film is set during the 1992 Los Angeles riots and follows Mercer (Gibson) as he tries to restore his life and repair his relationship with his son following the Rodney King verdict. Concurrently, another father and son plan a robbery at Mercer’s workplace as tensions rise in LA.
1992 is scheduled to hit theaters on August 30.
